More Dear Baby Jane’s!

These are the Dear Jane blocks I finished last night. They are M-10 Simple Simon, BR-1 Rosemary’s Rainbow and E-9 Quilt Jail respectively. I rotary cut and pieced traditionally M-10- a simple nine patch. BR-1 I FPP (freezer paper pieced) it and it was not bad at all! Now, E-9, much more tedious. In the software Brenda has given some tips and insight based on having finished her quilt and she recommended to FPP as she felt it would make the job easier. It still was giving me a little grief! The pieces are small and pressing them was not fun. I think if it does not fit in with the color scheme as I progress, it will be a redo. If I redo it I think I will try to piece it traditionally. The pic looks wonkier than it is- the one border was not flat when I photographed it but I did not notice until I downloaded it- but still I am not completely happy with that block. We’ll see!

Otherwise, I just need to finish my Birdhouses and the vines in the middle block of Home Sweet Home and then I can quilt it! Yeah! I think I will try to get some more blocks done tonight as I appear to be on a roll and the Dear Jane blog group are up to 33 done. I need to start doing the ones they have to catch up!
Happy Stitching!

Progress!

Today I managed to finish 2 new Dear baby Jane blocks. The first is D-6 Challenge. I freezer paper pieced this one and it went smoothly.

The next one I did is D-13 Field of Dreams. I rotary cut and then pieced this block. I am hoping to get some more done tonight and try and get a few of the ones that the Blog group are doing done.

D-13

I also wanted to share the fabrics I have so far chosen to use in my Butterfly Garden quilt that Stef and I are doing together. I still have to pick out a few solids for the applique and maybe add a little more yellow to the mix to even it out but so far I think I will use the lavender solid foe the main butterflies- then to decide my other appliques. The floral in the middle is the main fabric I chose (from Dandelion Girl) and matched the rest to it. Some of the fabrics are actually from my stash! When I first started quilting I loved MODA but especially Robyn Pandolph’s fabrics and collected quite a stash of her fabrics! I decided it was time to stop saving them and start using them! It has been fun discovering my tastes and incorporating them into my latest project’s!

I am continuing to work on my Home Sweet Home quilt and I hope to finish the stitchery’s in the next few days and quilt it on the weekend. Still have not decided if I am machine or hand quilting it yet….Hmmmm.

Well off to stain some shelves!

Organized Chaos finished!

Well, I have completed Organized Chaos and finally downloaded the photos I took of it. I am excited that I have another finish under my belt- even if it was started last year! I used YLI blue variegated thread on the border and for the feather stitch on the blocks, cream in the polka dot border and Valdani variegated pink on the blocks. I love the YLI and Valdani threads! They are wonderful to work with.

So as I have finished a project, I was going to allow myself to start the project from a couple of posts ago….well then all of the patterns I have ordered recently came in and I wanted to work on those, and my Dear Baby Jane’s. So the quilt I have started is a pattern by Natalie Lymer of Cinderberry Stitches that I ordered from Australia called “Home Sweet Home”. It is too cute and I am excited to finish it! I managed to piece it all and trace the stitchery patterns yesterday and then I have finished one of the stitchery’s already! It is going to hang in my foyer to welcome people when they come in the door!

Stefanie and I also ordered “Butterfly Garden” by Leanne’s House and are going to start that together so both of us are in the process of picking our fabric’ s and then piecing the first block. This will be an ongoing project that we hope to put the finishing touches on together at our quilt retreat in November. Will keep ya posted.

O.K. so I am off to stitch some more birds and the Home Sweet Home block…more tomorrow about the goodies I got at ‘strip’ club on Saturday!

The next bit of fun is a 5 Things Meme that one of my newest blog gal pals, Dawn at Sew-ritzy-titzy tagged me with. So to honor her tag….
5 Things Meme~~~~
The Rules:
Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5-6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.
1. What I was doing 10 years ago:
Hmmm, I believe I had been an RN for a year and could not find a job at home (Canada) so I accepted a Registered Nurse position in England to work at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading for a year. I believe I was on my way that month (absolutely amazing experience BTW!).

2. What 5 things are on on my to-do list for today (not in any particular order):
Hem the curtains, wash the floors, work on DJ blocks, finish the last of the binding on Organized Chaos and ‘quiltify’ it, swim with the kids.
3. Snacks I enjoy:
CHOCOLATE! of course and also cheddar Cheerios mix, scones or other pastries, veggies with dip and so on…. LOL!
4. Things I would do if I was a billionaire:
This one is a hard one… but I probably would start some sort of children’s charity/foundation and open a quilt shop, set our parents up for life, travel and ….well I could go on and on! Fun! If only…
5. Places I have lived:
WOW! I have moved a lot! My dad was a banker and therefore we moved every few years as a child then I moved on my own. Then when I married my husband (who is a Marine pilot) we moved more! But I will try to remember all!… Ontario, Canada (Clinton, Elmira, Dunnville, Simcoe, Brantford, Belle River, Windsor, Barrie and back to Windsor), Reading England, North Carolina (Greenville, then Havelock), Virginia, Mississippi and now Maryland.

So there you have it…a little about me! Thanks to Dawn for tagging me….I am definitely going to tag Stefanie (the Quilt Buddy) and Stina (Kvitstina) if they would like to play ( participation is strictly optionl especially if this is not your thing or you have been recently tagged!), otherwise I am not sure who else to tag so anyone who would like to play consider yourself tagged by me and let me know when you post! Also please stop by and check out Dawn, Stefanie, Mar and Stina’s blogs-I tell ya these are some very talented and creative ladies!

Well, I am off to complete my ‘to do ‘ list for the day and get some quilting done! So until next time…
Have a little fun!

This is going to be a gooood week!

This has been quite a productive week! I actually finished quilting Organized Chaos and am taking it off the TBQ list YEAH! I still have to do the hand stitching on the last half of the binding. For me though, that is one of my fave parts and I know when I settle down to watch a little telly, I will have it finished in no time. So I will probably be posting the finished product sometime this week.

On another front I received a great little parcel in the mail that I had ordered after seeing some of them on Home Sweet Home.

Recognise the pink box??? Well here are the goodies I bought- and the pin cushions I bought them for! I now have ‘blinged‘ out pincushies!!! I highly recommend you go over to Pinks and Needle’s and get some for yourself– the pics do not do them justice!

Of course I am gearing up for a great week ahead- plenty of sunshine, a warm pool, lots of quilting to be done and this coming Saturday is the monthly ‘strip’ club at my LQS, Lil Country Quilt Shoppe. I cannot wait to see what Susan and Doris have come up for this month! I also am looking forward to seeing the products from market! Yes this is going to be a great week!

On a closing note, the other thing that came in the mail this week was my EQ software for Dear Jane….Yep, I am jumping in with both feet! In fact here are my first 2 blocks completed!!!! First to start the whole process I started with an easy one…A-6 Uncle Homer and then I tried out this freezer paper tutorial ( thanks Wendy : ) it really made this block a cinch!) to piece together H-13 Farm Fields.

I also cut out the corresponding plain triangles (does anyone know if they are to be included in the count???). So I guess my Dear Baby Jane status is officially at 2-0-0-16 (or if I count the plain tri’s 2-2-0-18?). I am very excited about this quilt! I think I am pop an email off to Anina here to see if I can join the support! I also highly recommend getting the software if this is a journey you would like to take or are all ready taking- very helpful and makes the progress way easier! (note: you do not need to have EQ to run it). In fact I will be going to go do some more blocks tonight after this is posted.

Yep…This is going to be a goooood week!

A Compromise!

Well…I came to a solution of the previous dilemma…I decided to quilt one of the 2 TBQ quilts, since I have everything for it and in light of the fact that I pieced both quilts in the fall! LOL! I guess I was waiting for inspiration (and a better machine). I figure if I finish one of them then I won’t feel guilty starting a new project!

So I picked out the Organized Chaos quilt as I had an idea for what I wanted to do with it and basted it…Gee I wish I had this like Stefanie when doing this job! It was not too bad as the new floor in the Nook is perfect for basting- but did nothing to solve the sore knees and back! Anyway, I got down to quilting it and wanted to give a sneak of the WIP on my 440. I will have more to follow once it is bound and ‘quiltified’ but I wanted to post about solving my stalemate! It is nice to know there are other people out there who go through the same dilemma (I, unfortunately, go through this a lot! Too many quilts, not enough time LOL!)

Well, off to the nook to quilt my heart out!
T.T.F.N.

Bit of a dilemma…

I have this wonderful fabric that is just screaming please use me and a quilt in mind for it…. BUT I also have 2 quilts in the TBQ pile and I have several WIP’s that need my attention. So here is my dilemma…I am torn with what to do! LOL! How many of us swear to finish up our lists before starting something new but really miss the thrill and excitement of a new project only to find our WIP’s just get bigger and bigger…EEK! So while I contemplate which to do I will share the pics of the fabric and the quilt I would like to be doing with it!

Happy dilemma solving!LOL!

Blog-hopping!

Today I started my morning pretty much the same as any day… the wee one wakes me up way to early and we get up and start breakfast. Then when the kiddies are sitting with their breakfast I get tea and toast and go spend some time on the computer. Today I decided to catch up on my blog-hopping! I have discovered many new blogs ( new to me anyway) today and one in particular, Home Sweet Home, is having a great give away!! One is a known gift of the cutest pins for our pin cushions and the other is a mystery prize! How exciting! Needless to say I also visited the Pinks and Needles blog and her Etsy store where Jo found these adorable handmade’s! So head on over to both sites and check them out!

I also decided to join my first swap! All Stitched Up was having a pincushion swap (it is full now and underway) and since I have discovered a love of pincushions, I joined in! So exciting as our swaps are international and secret!!! I cannot wait to see the finished products!

On that note I wanted to say….Happy blog-hopping!

At last some finishes!

Well, I have finished the first quilt(s) in the new Nook! All of my finishes this week are commissioned projects from The Quilt Nook. The first is a memory quilt for a graduation gift. The recipient was in awe of her mom for

getting this for her- I called it “Shabby Chic Memories”. She said it matched her bedroom perfectly! I would have to say it was hard to give this one to them! I may have to make a quilt in this fabric line, Simplicity by Moda, for myself.
Here are some close-ups:

The next finishes were for going away presents. They are on their way to the customer as we speak and she will be presenting them on Wednesday I believe…I will find out then how their recipients liked them! : )

Otherwise I managed to clean up and reorganize (it gets crazy in my room when I am working LOL!) the Nook and it is ready today for me to get back at it. I took the class on my machine a couple of weeks ago and now I guess I need to schedule the embroidery class too so I actually am using my 440 with actual knowledge instead of winging it…I tell you though it was a dream working on that memory quilt with a good, scratch that, GREAT machine! Thanks Bernina! I have been trying to use it on my own but Vista is giving me grief!!! I think tomorrow I will call and schedule the class!

Well, since the Nook is cleaned up and ready for more creativeness, I think today will be a day to work on personal projects and see if I can whittle down my WIP’s and TBQ’s lists on the side. Hoping to get them completed before my Cinderberry Stitches patterns arrive (hopefully tomorrow: ) – more on those later!)
Happy Memorial day and God Bless our troops (and my Marine!)

Back to work!

This week has been completely crazy! We returned from an impromptu visit to Disney world and I was able to finish putting the ‘Nook’ back together and got started on my commissioned projects. I am now scanning the photos for the one project and then I will applique them in place and can quilt it. I will show a sneak peak as soon as I download the photo. Then I need to put together the pillows for the other order and I am finished for May! I tell you, it feels great to be back in my space and working on quilts.
I have also been working on some yo yo’s for my jar. I am using a few in my current projects and I hope they add a little je nais se quoi. My parents are here visiting and it has been a nice break!
I hope to work on my WIP list sometime later this week and of course I need to go to my LQS for some backing fabric for the memory quilt. That means I can check out what was brought back from market! : ) yippee!
Well the pics have finished and I need to go print them and then applique them so….
